Inspired by the humorous and hip, Jungyeon Roh's vigorous lines course with saturated technicolor energy in stylized scenes. With a technique informed by a passion for screen printing, her digital illustrations are often difficult to distinguish from her handmade screen printed artwork. Not afraid to comment on the foibles of contemporary culture at large, she is equally skilled at capturing intimate scenes that honor a sense of context and place.

Currently working from her home city of Seoul, South Korea, Jungyeon studied at New York's renowned School of Visual Arts, earning a BFA in Illustration and Cartooning and an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay. She obtained her doctoral degree from the Department of Design at Seoul National University in 2023. Her doctoral thesis, 'A Study of Illustrations on the Modern Transformation of Genre Paintings: Focusing on Shin Yun-bok's Hyewonjeonshincheop’, delved into the enigmatic works of a pivotal artist from Korea’s late Joseon-era, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens.

From the beginning, Jungyeon’s work has won praise from industry tastemakers, within months of earning her MFA she was named one of PRINT Magazine's twenty ‘New Visual Artists’. Since then she has received two gold cubes and a bronze cube from the Art Directors Club of New York, a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators of New York, and a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles. Her work has been recognized by numerous other associations and publications, including Communication Arts, American Illustration, CMYK, 3x3, Alt Pick and Creative Quarterly.
