Hem for Vox Humana @ the LA Art Show

Andrew Hem joins celebrated international artists Edward Walton Wilcox, Shark Toof and Chor Boogie for Vox Humana, a large-scale, live art installation presented by Los Angeles-based arts organization, L.A. Art Machine. Part of the 16th Annual Los Angeles Art Fair, Vox Humana takes place over 5 days and covers more than 500 square feet of canvas, inviting visitors to take a firsthand look at the esoteric world of the artistic creative process. It runs January 19th through 23rd at the L.A. Convention Center.

Hem @ Beyond Eden

Andrew Hem is exhibiting with LeBasse Projects at Beyond Eden, a multi-gallery event celebrating Los Angeles’ contemporary art scene. This is the second edition of the event, with last year’s Beyond Eden exhibition drawing over 5,000 visitors over the course of one weekend. This year’s event showcases the work of seven galleries, including Carmichael Gallery, C.A.V.E. Gallery, Copro Gallery, Crewest, La Luz De Jesus, LeBasse Projects and Thinkspace. It also includes live-painting demonstrations and the LA premiere of Humble Pictures’ film, New Brow.

Beyond Eden takes at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, a historic 10,000 square foot facility located on the sprawling grounds of Olive Hill in the Barnsdall Art Park. The park overlooks the city of Los Angeles and is also home to the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House and Arts Complex. It takes place October 9th and 10th, 2010.

Hem for The Mikado

Andrew Hem illustrated for the Fort Worth Opera’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado. The story centers around Nanki-Poo and Yum-Yum, two young lovers struggling against the powers that be to become husband and wife. Fort Worth Opera’s version of the comedy remains true to the original, featuring some of the best-known Gilbert and Sullivan tunes, but with the fun twist of setting it in modern day Japan.

It shows May 14th, 22nd, 27th and June 4th, 2011. Tickets are available now.

Hem at Jonathan Levine Gallery

Hem, One Leads to Another

Andrew Hem’s solo show One Leads to Another opens this Saturday, January 16th, 2010 at LeBasse Projects in Culver City, CA. The show is inspired by the history and tragedy of Andrew’s native Cambodia and the idea of what if, where one event can result in two significantly different outcomes. Andrew’s paintings imagine a Cambodia where the violent Khmer Rouge regime had never taken power and how the lives of it’s people would have been altered. The show runs until Saturday, February 13th, 2010.

Hem for A Cry for Help

Andrew Hem contributed a piece to Thinkspace Gallery’s A Cry For Help in Los Angeles, CA. This benefit show features the work of over 100 artists with 20 percent of all proceeds going to Born Free USA, a non-profit organization that seeks to end the suffering of wild animals in captivity and encourage compassionate conservation globally. The show runs until Friday, February 5th, 2010.

Hem, Lost Underground Art Show

Andrew Hem contributed a piece to Gallery 1988‘s Lost Underground Art Show in Los Angeles, CA. The show was in commemoration of the sixth and final season of the hit tv series and boasted the gallery’s largest opening to date with fans of the show waiting in line overnight to enter the gallery. The show’s producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were on hand to meet fans and sign autographs and even CNN showed up to cover the phenomenon. The show ran from December 15th to 24th, 2009.
