Estrada for My Little Pony

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Catalina Estrada designed her own My Little Pony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the plastic toy that has captivated girls since the 80’s. Catalina is one of 25 artists, fashion designers and celebrities that were invited by Hasbro to decorate their own 18-inch versions of the usually 4-inch-tall ponies as part of The My Little Pony Project: 25 Ponies for 25 Years. Catalina’s pony was unveiled at the annual My Little Pony Collectors Convention on the weekend of June 21st while the others will be unveiled at a gallery event in Manhattan this September. The ponies will then be auctioned off in support of the Give Kids the World charity which aims to provide children with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to experience a memorable and cost-free visit to the central Florida attractions. Other artists that participated in the project include Japanese manga artist Junko Mizuno and New York graffiti artist-turned-designer Claw Money. LeAnn Rimes and Debbie Gibson are among the celebrities.

Estrada in Fashion Wonderland

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Catalina Estrada is featured in Victionary’s new book, Fashion Wonderland: Uncover the Power of Illustration in Fashion, the follow-up to their previous book, Fashion Unfolding, which also featured Catalina’s work. This beautiful book studies the crucial role of illustration in fashion and shows what a powerful tool it can be by sharing examples from print, installation, interior decorating and from straight off the runway by both established names and emerging talents from around the globe. From preliminary concept sketches, to t-shirt graphics, eye-catching magazine ads and patterns on textiles, Fashion Wonderland contains hundreds of examples of fashion illustration and is meant to be an inspirational tool as much as a visual feast for anyone involved in the fashion or illustration world.

Fashion Wonderland is available through Victionary.
