Ponzi Exhibits at the New York Times

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

The New York Times pays tribute to Emiliano Ponzi with a solo exhibition held in its Manhattan office. In the 7th Gallery, on the 7th floor of the editorial office of the most prestigious international newspaper, 40 artworks will be exhibited for the American public. Nicholas Blechman, curator of the exhibition and Art Director of the New York Times Book Review, has selected the most important works of the Italian illustrator that best demonstrate his extraordinary success.

This exclusive acknowledgement given to Emiliano Ponzi marks the value of a decade-long artistic career that has been published in the pages of the most important international press: The New York Times, Le Monde, The New Yorker, LA Times, La Repubblica, The Economist, The Guardian, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Il sole 24 ore.

This New York exhibition follows on the heels of Emiliano being awarded two gold medals by the Society of Illustrators.

“These illustrations”, says Nicholas Blechmann, “answer perfectly to the Munari principle, for whom the designer must be able to answer with humility and talent, the questions made by the society in which he lives.”

Ponzi for Portsmouth Brewery

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Emiliano Ponzi illustrated for Portsmouth Brewery’s Kate the Great Day. The annual event takes place the first Monday in March and is the only day of the year the brewery’s Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout is available. The popular event draws people from all over New England with many waiting in line overnight for what Beer Advocate magazine calls the “best beer in America.”

Emiliano’s quirky portrait of the infamous Russian empress, Catherine the Great, could be seen on labels for the beer, as well as on several other promotional items, including t-shirts for men, women and children and ticket stubs for the event. A portion of the proceeds went to benefit local charities.

Ponzi Accepts SOI Gold Medal

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Emiliano Ponzi was in attendance for the Society of Illustrators Advertising and Institutional awards ceremony on Friday, March 2.  He was presented with gold medals for his Amnesty International animation “Voices for Freedom,” and for his EMI Music illustration “Evil Apple Core.”  Emiliano’s friends and family were also in attendance, including Italian singer Valerio Millefoglie whose label commissioned Emiliano’s award-winning piece. Valerio performed songs from his album I miel migliori amici immaginari throughout the night.

Below is Emiliano’s art, framed and hanging in the Society of Illustrators’ gallery.  The caption reads: “This piece combines one of history’s evil icons with the apple, the fruit of Eden’s Tree of Knowledge. At the core of each apple is a seed, a symbol of life but also a natural source of cyanide. ‘Bad seed’ is moreover an American idiom for someone who is evil to the core.”

Congratulations Emiliano!
