Barber, Bagayan, and Estrada in La Luz de Jesus 25

Shawn Barber, Ana Bagayan, and Catalina Estrada will show in Part 2 of La Luz de Jesus 25, a retrospective celebrating the gallery’s 25th anniversary.  La Luz de Jesus is a highly influential Los Angeles gallery specializing in lowbrow, post-pop, and pop surrealism art.

Shawn Barber’s portrait of Billy Shire was featured in the October 4, 2011 issue of the Huffington Post‘s Artweek.LA, an online magazine focusing on the LA art scene.  The article covers the 25th anniversary of Los Angeles gallery La Luz de Jesus.  Magnet artists Shawn Barber and Ana Bagayan are two of the 260 artists chosen to show in the retrospective survey spanning “three generations of today’s most important artists.”

Shawn Barber and Ana Bagayan will appear this Thursday (August 11) at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles for a special book signing event called SKETCH THEATER Volume 1.  They will join notable La Luz alumni such as Ron English, Gris Grimly, Brandi Milne, Chet Zar, Greg “Craoloa” Simkins, Michael Hussar, Luke Chueh, Steven Daily, Tara McPherson, Nate Frizzell, Travis Louie, and Jon Schnepp.  This event will celebrate the intersection of commercial illustration and gallery exhibition.

Bagayan for The Blab! Show

Ana Bagayan will be exhibiting a piece in The Blab! Show at Seattle’s Roq La Rue Gallery this Friday, August 12th, 2011. This year, the annual group invitational show will celebrate the joy of Krampus with a series of artworks inspired by the Alpine legend. Curated by Monte Beauchamp, the show includes work by Nicoletta Ceccoli, Travis Louie, Martin Wittfooth, Brian Despain, Dan May, Shag and Andy Kehoe, among others. It runs until Saturday, September 3rd, 2011.

Sauvage @ Japan Expo, June 30 to July 3, 2011

Marguerite Sauvage will join dozens of French artists at Japan Expo in memorializing famed anime director, Satoshi Kon. Kon passed away from pancreatic cancer last August at the age of 46. He chose to keep his illness a secret, continuing to work until the end of his film Yume Miru Kikai. The exhibition runs from Thursday, June 30th through Sunday, July 3rd, 2011 at the Paris-Nord Villepinte in Paris, France.

Bagayan: Yesterday’s Flower

Ana Bagayan’s solo show, Yesterday’s Flower, opens on Friday, February 4th at FB69 Gallery in Münster, Germany. The exhibition will present never-before-seen work, including a selection of pencil drawings from her One Drawing A Day project. For those unable to attend the event, a preview is available online, including information for purchasing artwork. The exhibition runs until Saturday, April 2nd, 2011.

Hem for Vox Humana @ the LA Art Show

Andrew Hem joins celebrated international artists Edward Walton Wilcox, Shark Toof and Chor Boogie for Vox Humana, a large-scale, live art installation presented by Los Angeles-based arts organization, L.A. Art Machine. Part of the 16th Annual Los Angeles Art Fair, Vox Humana takes place over 5 days and covers more than 500 square feet of canvas, inviting visitors to take a firsthand look at the esoteric world of the artistic creative process. It runs January 19th through 23rd at the L.A. Convention Center.

Ronca, Happiness At Work

Catell Ronca is participating in the group show, Happiness at Work, at The Print House Gallery in London. The show features the work of past and present occupants of the Happiness at Work studio, which has hosted some of London’s best-known artists and designers since it’s inception in 2003.

Catell, who occupied the studio between 2003 and 2006, will be exhibiting her piece Medicine Man, a tribute to British-American pharmacist, entrepreneur and collector of medicinal objects, Sir Henry Wellcome.

The show runs until November 15th, 2010 and also includes the work of Simone Lia, Sarah Horne, Harriet Russell and Sandra Howgate, among others.

Bagayan for Bad Dads

Ana Bagayan is one of over 60 artists contributing work to Bad Dads, an art show tribute to the films of Wes Anderson. The show, organized by Spoke Art, a transient art gallery and publishing house, will be the inaugural event at Lopo Gallery, a new space in San Francisco’s lower Polk neighborhood.

The show includes Ana’s portrait of Margot Tenenbaum from Anderson’s 2001 film, The Royal Tenenbaums, as well as work from Munk One, Tatiana Suarez, Carlo Ramos, Evan B. Harris, Serge Gay Jr., Ibraheem Youssef, Tim Doyle and many others.

Red Nose Studio’s Original Art Show

Here Comes the Garbage Barge! (Schwartz + Wade), written by Jonah Winter and illustrated by Red Nose Studio, will be part of the Original Art Show at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York, NY. The annual exhibition showcases the original art from the year’s best children’s books, as selected by a jury of outstanding illustrators, art directors and editors. The show runs until Wednesday, November 24th, 2010. Congratulations go out to Chris, Jonah and everyone at Schwartz + Wade.
