Barber Shows Solo at Billy Shire

Shawn Barber will be exhibiting at Billy Shire Fine Arts in Culver City, CA. This installment of the Tattooed Portrait series focuses on Los Angeles tattoo artists, with paintings and watercolors of many of LA’s most beloved and storied tattoo artists working today. The Tattooed Portrait Series has been an ongoing project, documenting artists that are tattooed, tattoo artists, their tools and materials. After 3 years of working on this series, two books, a few art shows and learning to tattoo- this show is a culmination of this labor of love so if you’re in the area be sure to check it out. It opens on July 19th and runs until August 23rd, 2008.

Andrew Hem will be exhibiting in Roq La Rue’s 10th anniversary group show in Seattle, WA. The show also features the work of Femke Hiemstra, Brian Despain, Travis Louie, Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, Scott Musgrove, Ryan Heshka, Glenn Barr, Liz McGrath, Tin, Lori Earley, Christian Vanminnen, Ronald Kurniawan, Kay Tuttle, Viktor Safonkin, John Brophy, Lisa Petrucci, Shag, Anthony Pontius, Mia Araujo, Mike Leavitt and more. It opens on Friday, July 11th and runs until Saturday, August 2nd, 2008.

Shannon’s Ode to Edo

Ben Shannon is exhibiting in Ode to Edo: Legacy of the Samurai, a group show that will feature a collection of 14 Samurai armor sets and paintings by 21 contemporary artists. Thirty limited edition silkscreen prints of the poster illustrated by Kagan McLeod will be available for sale, as well as a set of small “jam” drawings created by the artists. The show is being presented by Jerome Jenner Gallery and will take place at SMASH in Toronto. Some of the other artists participating in the show include Amro Attia, Hiroshi Hirakawa, Kurt Ketchum, Charlotte Greenwood and Yukiko Utso, among others. The show runs from Thursday, June 19th  until Monday, June 30th, 2008.

Sauvage for the Wi-filles Party 3

Marguerite Sauvage will be exhibiting work at the third annual Wi-filles Party in Paris. The event takes place at Door Studios, a converted factory that is now home to photographers, designers and architects and includes a photography studio, gallery and reception hall. The party takes place on June 23rd, 2008 from 8:30 to 11:30pm and will also feature the work of Adolie Day.

Red Nose Studio Illustrating Illustration

Red Nose Studio was invited by the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office to exhibit his work in the group show Illustrating Illustration in Kilkenny, Ireland. The exhibition features the work of 11 of the most renowned and successful illustrators from around the world and was curated by award-winning illustrator Alè Mercado (Ireland). The show offers the audience a tour of the process of illustration and opens discussion around two principles- that there is no one original in illustration and that illustration cannot exist without text or concept. Other artists in the show include Saturio Alonso, Steven Aylin, Melinda Beck, BrenB, Ina Fiebig, Jordin Isip, Ana Juan, KEKO, Alé Mercado and Paula Sanz Caballero. Illustrating Illustration runs from Friday, June 13th to Friday, July 25th, 2008.

Estrada Exhibits in Hong Kong

Catalina Estrada was chosen to exhibit her work alongside some of Colombia’s most important designers, illustrators and photographers in Realiity x Colombia Passion x ReD52. The show was organized by Realiity and ReD52, sponsored by newwebpick.com and curated by Colombian designer and illustrator, Jorge Restrepo. The show opened at the Hong Kong Inno Centre and was then show at LCX Harbour City.

Hem at Tag Art Gallery

Andrew Hem will be exhibiting in a six-man show at Tag Art Gallery in Nashville, TN. The show, Nice to Meet You, features familiar Tag artists as well as a few newcomers, and includes Terri Saul, Keith Greiman, Greg Gossel, Mary Addison Hackett and Maura Cluthe. The show runs from Saturday, June 7th to Saturday, June 28th, 2008.

Bagayan At DvA Gallery

Ana Bagayan is exhibiting in DvA Gallery’s collaboration show with Billy Shire Fine Arts in Chicago, IL. Other artists participating in the show include Dave Cooper, Martha Rich, Bob Dob and Bonnie Reid, among others. The show opens on Saturday, April 26th, 2008 with a book and toy signing between 4-6pm and the opening reception between 7-11pm.

Red Nose Studio Shows & Signs

Chris Sickels of Red Nose Studio has a show opening tonight (Fri, April 11th, 2008) in historic downtown Greenfield, IN, his hometown. The event is part of the inaugural Second Friday event which links little shops, cafes, galleries and even a studio arts center with with people in the community. Chris will also be signing copies of The Look Book at the new Crazy Lake Art House at:

2 W Main, Greenfield from 7:30-8pm, April 11th.

The exhibit will run from April 11-July 31st 2008.

Presented by Arts Hancock County.

Sauvage in Nucleus PIN Show

Marguerite Sauvage is participating in Nucleus Gallery’s third annual Power In Numbers show. Power In Numbers, the gallery’s biggest event of the year, showcases 5 x 7 inch pieces of art created by various artists that sell for $100 each. 20 percent of all proceeds go towards a benefit of choice, this year’s being The Make A Wish Foundation. The event also marks the gallery’s official homecoming at their new space at 210 E. Main St., Alhambra, CA. The show opens on Saturday, April 12th and runs to Monday, April 28th, 2008.
