Sauvage at Design Festa Gallery, Tokyo

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Marguerite Sauvage is exhibiting in Gurato’s group show, H, at Design Festa Gallery in Tokyo. Gurato is a French association that aims to promote artistic exchanges between French-speaking Europe and Japan, offering exposure to young artists from France, Belgium and Switzerland in Japan and vice versa. For H, Gurato invited 20 European illustrators to explore the idea of “H”, or Hentai. The Western world has been intrigued with Hentai, often viewing Japan as a remote heaven inhabited by courtesans, geishas, submissive housewives, naïve high school girls and huge-breasted manga heroines. With 4 out of 10 Japanese couples claiming to be “sex-less,” this exhibit explores the idea of Japan and Henati as either a world of limitless fantasy and promise or as one of pure imagination. Other artists in the show include: ARF!, Bluenju, cRoA, Emmanuel Malin, Jerome Senaillat, Joyce Colson, Kness, Lotie, Made, Max F, Mcbess, Mikkymixx, Mylydy, Reuno, Shaka, The Nudeman, Veronique Meignaud, Vincent Leveque and Yuio. The show runs from August 8th to 14th.
