Roumieu Admired by Toureg Tribesman

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Clint McLean, photographer and photo editor of the Globe & Mail newspaper, captured this priceless shot while in the Sahara desert north of Timbuktu. While traveling by camel he sat in the shade near a well to kill time during the hottest part of the day and shared a few magazines with the locals. This Toureg tribesman took particular interest in a copy of The Walrus with a cover illustration by Graham Roumieu. He looked through the whole magazine upside down and spent most of his time looking at the pictures.

BTW – check out Clint’s website, his work is really beautiful.

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Marguerite Sauvage and Catalina Estrada both have artwork in Die Gestalten Verlag’s Illusive 2- Contemporary Illustration and its Context, which was released October 2007. Since the publication of the first Illusive book the demand for illustration has grown- and with it it’s range of function and method. This development is confirmed by the variety of international illustrators and work that appear in Illusive 2. The book features a broad range of work, including personal work, fashion illustration and commercial projects, revealing current developments and the various approaches that coexist today. Commentary by leading design agencies provide context and surprising insight into techniques, methods and motivations.

Estrada for Zune Originals

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Catalina Estrada was one of 18 international artists invited by Microsoft to illustrate or design work for the Zune Originals collection. The Zune Originals are a series of 27 styles of Zune devices that have custom artwork engraved on the back. On the Zune Originals site, launching November 13th, 2007, visitors will be able to customize their Zune by size, color, illustration and with up to four optional lines of text—all free of charge, at least for the time being.

Microsoft planned much fanfare for the launch of the Zune Originals with a November 13th launch party at Skylight in New York. Originals artists flew in from around the globe for the event and got to see the devices for the first time, along with the downloadable graphics, artwork enlarged as posters, and even a billboard in New York.

Special thanks go out to you Ramiro, it was a pleasure!
