Estrada at Iguapop Gallery
Thursday, April 30th, 2009Catalina Estrada’s solo show, Disarming Dreams, opens at Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona, Spain on April 30th, 2009. The show takes us away from the beautiful dreamscapes we’ve come to expect from Catalina to show us the grim reality of the child soldiers fighting in Colombia’s civil war. These children, most of which come from poor families, understand very little of the conflict they take part in. They fight against other children with very similar backgrounds and who share the same economical situation and grim future. These children, that have so much in common in civil life, become ruthless enemies at war.
“Disarming Dreams looks for those children hidden behind the mist. These children to whom the alienation and madness of the war has condemned to float in the limbo as lost souls awaiting to be reborn, awaiting to awake and discover that they were fooled, that their rifle was always made of plastic.”
- Pancho Tolchinsky
The show runs until May 30th, 2009.
Opening Reception: April 30th, 2009 8pm
Iguapop Gallery, Comerç, 15, Barcelona, SPAIN
