Red Nose for Spectrum

Red Nose Studio will be exhibiting in the Spectrum show at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York City. The exhibition will feature 150 pieces selected from the almost 2000 images that have appeared in the last four editions of Spectrum. Spectrum’s last exhibition was in 2005 and it turned out to be one of the most popular events of the year, drawing record breaking crowds. The opening reception takes place on Friday, September 11th but the artwork will be on display from Tuesday, September 1st until Saturday, October 17th, 2009.

Sauvage Re-Defines the Line

Marguerite Sauvage joins nine international artists for Redefining the Line: Art Nouveau and the Female Figure at California State University, Fullerton. This exhibition, which showcases graphic design, illustration and installation work, investigates the influence of Art Nouveau on contemporary artists who successfully merge the fine art and commercial art worlds by applying fine art techniques to commercial avenues, such as fashion, music and popular culture. The show was curated by Alexandra Duron and Sarah Strozza and also includes the work of Pomme Chan, Deanne Cheuk, Naja Conrad-Hansen, Aya Kato, Pandarosa, Alberto Seveso, Sonya Suhariyan, Yoshi Tajima and Eveline Tarunadjaja. The show runs from Saturday, August 29th to Friday, October 2nd, 2009.

Ponzi for The Boston Globe

Emiliano Ponzi illustrated for The Boston Globe’s review of Strength in What Remains: A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness by Tracy Kidder. The book tells the true story of Deogratias, a young Tutsi who fled genocide only to end up on the streets of New York. He delivers groceries 12 hours a day for far less then minimum wage and learns to speak English, eventually going on to graduate from Columbia University, then Dartmouth Medical School, finally returning home to open a clinic. Estrada Imagining Mozambique

Catalina Estrada contributed artwork to the traveling art show, Imagining Mozambique. This exhibition features internationally renowned artists who have created thought-provoking art inspired by Mozambican children and their daily plight for survival and change.

The show premiers at the Maxalot Gallery in Amsterdam from August 27th to September 10th as a fundraising drive for ASEM, a non-profit organization that helps the children and orphans of Mozambique. Over the past 17 years ASEM has been working hard to provide Mozambican children an alternative to life on the streets and has established various centers that provide shelter, education and food to thousands of children.

Estrada in Blanket Magazine

Catalina Estrada is featured in the current issue (no. 17) of Blanket magazine. The two-page spread features examples of Catalina’s work, as well as a short interview. It is published several times a year as a downloadable pdf magazine that features art, design and photography.

More Press for Williams

Olive’s Unisex and Super Poop Bags, which feature the artwork of Nate Williams, have received even more press. This time the bags were featured in the Exhibit section on the Communication Arts website. They’ve also been featured  on Justin Timberlake’s website and in various design blogs.

Barber for The Shooting Gallery

Shawn Barber has a solo show, Tattooed Portraits: Snapshots, at The Shooting Gallery in San Francisco, CA. The show features the latest work in the Tattooed Portrait series, which he started back in 2005 as a way of documenting the men and women that define contemporary American tattoo art. Since then, Shawn’s dedication and enthusiasm for the art form has opened doors for him, allowing him to learn the craft himself from some of the greatest tattoo artists in the world. Today, Shawn’s life is consumed with tattooing, the art of tattoo and documentation of tattooing through painting. The show opens on Saturday, August 15th and runs until Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.

Williams for Blue Q

Nate Williams illustrated two new bags – the Black and Red All Over Shopper and the See You Around Tote - for Blue Q, the designers and manufacturers of decorative objects, eclectic bath products, miniature books and other artful curiosities.

Both bags are made with 95% recycled post-consumer material that includes used grain sacks and plastic water bottles, making it the highest percentage of any woven polypropylene bag on the market. 1% of the sale of Blue Q bags support the conservation work of The Nature Conservancy, a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people, guaranteeing a minimum contribution of $50 000 through April 19th, 2011.

Sauvage for The Sweater Chop Shop

Marguerite Sauvage illustrated for Storey Publishing’s The Sweater Chop Shop by Crispina Ffrench. In the interview he discusses his early beginnings as an art student, his relationship with Magnet, what inspires him and his plans for the future, which include an upcoming move to Los Angeles where he plans to open a private studio and tattoo shop where he’ll teach painting workshops.
