Pilar Skates Into the Holidays

Bella Pilar illustrated for San Francisco’s Union Square Ice Rink. Last year the outdoor rink, which is operated by Willy Bietak Productions and surrounds the Macy’s holiday tree, attracted 55 000 skaters over the holiday period. Bella’s illustrations could be seen on outdoor signage surrounding the rink, as well as on the building that houses the zamboni.

Hem for A Cry for Help

Andrew Hem contributed a piece to Thinkspace Gallery’s A Cry For Help in Los Angeles, CA. This benefit show features the work of over 100 artists with 20 percent of all proceeds going to Born Free USA, a non-profit organization that seeks to end the suffering of wild animals in captivity and encourage compassionate conservation globally. The show runs until Friday, February 5th, 2010.

Blue for The Burger Boys

Alexander Blue illustrated for JCW’s restaurant The Burger Boys. The restaurant serves good old-fashioned burgers, fries and milkshakes and is based in Utah. The illustration is part of a marketing and promotion campaign that includes menus, placemats and t-shirts.

Bagayan, EdgyCute

Ana Bagayan is featured in Harry Saylor’s new book EdgyCute: From New-Pop to Low Brow and Back Again (Mark Batty Publisher). Harry Saylor, owner of Orbit Gallery, has assembled a group of 47 artists that exemplify the ‘EdgyCute’ aesthetic, where doe-eyed girls and animated desserts often come packed with a punch. Other artists featured in the book include Gary Baseman, Ryan Heshka, Brandi Milne, Motomichi Nakamura and Gary Taxali.

Red Nose + Ponzi for Illustration West 48

Red Nose Studio and Emiliano Ponzi had work accepted into the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles‘ annual exhibition. This year over 1200 pieces were entered. The winning pieces will be exhibited on the Illustration West 48 web site for two years and in a gallery show later this year. Congratulations go out to all!
