"Falling Beauty"

“I once pulled up to the toll booth on the Golden Gate Bridge in thousand-dollar leather pants and not enough money for the toll,” Gayle Kabaker says, recounting how her love of style sometimes overshadows life’s practicalities. Kabaker, a fashion illustrator and the artist behind the cover for the Style Issue, has since left city life and is now settled into what she calls “the boonies of Western Massachusetts,” but her interest in fashion remains constant. “When I was a kid, my babysitter went on to illustrate the Style section of the Washington Post. That’s when I realized what I wanted to be.”
